Changes over Time: Male Ideals One of the biggest issues in the world right now is that women are objectified and are made to feel that they are subpar to unattainable goals. Women are told how to dress, what to eat, and how to act. It was always thought that men didn’t have the same issues, the pressures of reaching an obtainable goal, this isn’t true. Magazines, media, and society dictates how both genders interact with each other. Men have changed and are pressured just as much as women. Exploring just in the last few decades, you see the styles change drastically. Specifically, Woodstock era versus current era. Modern men have a distorted body image in our society to fit the idea of the â€Å"perfect† male body image going as far as†¦show more content†¦Men today also spend billions of dollars on fitness, such as going to the gym and personal trainers. In the past men went to the gym, but now it’s turned into a twenty-four hours a day, seven d ays a week to reach that ideal body. Another way that men reach their ideals is by receiving cosmetic surgery to make unattainable goals a reality. At the end of the article female magazines were mentioned now featuring men that are attractive and fit the male ideal to be eye candy for women. The article ended with a comparison of how women were made to feel inferior and showed how men are being made to feel inferior in a similar way about their bodies, which personally brought about my own struggles with my weight and what is and isn’t considered â€Å"sexy† in society. Plastic surgery is a serious addiction for many people in our generation. Plastic surgery is defined by dictionary.com as the process of reconstructing or repairing parts of the body, especially by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for cosmetic reasons (Plastic Surgery). Men these days are striving to look the best they can by any means. After they realize that they canâ€⠄¢t attain those same goals with diet, exercise, and grooming they head to a plastic surgeon.
